Berries round or somewhat oval (4-8 cm in diameter) bright yellow, red or orange yellow covers «hairs» that flow to ripen the fruit. The pulp, divided into four compartments is greenish with several seeds and its flavor is bittersweet mixture of pineapple and strawberries. Also known as naranjilla.
It can be eaten fresh and is used as raw material for pulp, juices, concentrates, ice cream, jams, preserves, sauces, desserts and sweets. The ripe fruit can be processed with shell and obtained higher content of minerals and fiber.
